Escalator Accidents/Injuries Involving Crocs

With the Crocs craze in full swing, a potential danger has surfaced involving Crocs and escalators. It has been reported recently that accidents causing foot injuries are on the rise. Many of these accidents have involving Crocs and other soft rubber sole shoes becoming caught in escalators.

Escalators have long been a cause of hand and foot injuries even before Crocs.

"I don't know if it's a shoe problem or it's an escalator problem," said Donna Alfieri, associate professor of Primary Podiatric Medical Sciences and director of Clinical Research at the N.Y. College of Podiatric Medicine. "In general, I think you have to be careful when you get on and off the escalator anyway because people do have injuries if they're not careful with where they place their footing."

Many of these involve children. For safety, experts believe that a child should be in the center of the step if riding an elevator.
