Congratulations to Bruce Ure, Victorias new police chief. We look forward to working with him and wish him well at his new job. As we all know, it is important to have a top notch police force. It is also important that we, as citizens do our part to make their job easier. In that spirit, here are ten simple steps that you can take to protect yourself and make the investigating officer's job easier when you are involved in a car wreck.

1. Remain calm.
2. Call for 911 assistance if there is an emergency.
3. If you think you may be injured remain in your vehicle until medical help arrives.
4. If you are uninjured check to see if others involved in the collision are injured.
5. Do not accuse or argue with the other party.
6. Cooperate with the investigating officer(s).
7. Have your license and insurance card ready. The officer will request it.
8. Document or have someone else document the names and phone numbers of any potential witnesses.
9. If you are inured, go to your doctor or to the emergency room (don't be a tough guy, it may hurt you later).
10. Contact an attorney you trust before settling. Most personal injury attorney we consult with you free of charge. Even if you decide to handle the claim yourself, their advice can be very valuable.
